That's your lot 13, Ally Pally, May Bank Holiday
A late post about this ReKindle event, but a show I really enjoyed for the 'flashmob' style performance piece 'Chalk it out', where we all took turns chalking around each other lying flat on the ground when the whistle blew. As for my own work, 'Love arts' was quite popular, indeed you could say it was a runaway success, as in someone ran away with them while I was getting a coffee. I guess I should be flattered. I then spent the next two days recreating them 'live' in the park and met a lot of nice people along the way. Why Love arts? Well with arts being bumped down the national curriculum and with arts generally being cut here there and everywhere, it's easy to get negative, so time to flip the script. Love arts was an attempt to make people just feel good and appreciate art.

Terms and conditions apply
‘Terms and conditions apply’ for Bah Humbug!, Ally Pally 2012. In keeping with this year’s theme, these pieces take a dim view of how apparently easy life is. Everything comes with strings attached, from personal relationships to phone contracts. Why can’t everyday life and the things that matter most just work without the small print? Why does everything we’re promised today have to be dependent and conditional. I’m going to ask you to sign an 18 month contract now. Happy?

I've been asleep: Queen's Wood 2011

The show title is 'Green Shoots'. 20 artists doing site specific and performance pieces in Queen's Wood, Highgate, North London. My piece is an 'oversized' piece again. I seem to be good at messing with scale and it tends to work quite well in lovely outside spaces like this ancient woodland. These are 9 plaster 'sleeping pills', 7 inches across in the old money. So it's about rebirth, it's about waking up, a return to consciousness. Or it's oversized sleeping pills with writing on, it's whatever you make of it! On for this weekend only, 10-11th September 2011. Thanks again to Tony & Judith at Rekindlepublicarts.org for having me along.

Sometime you just have to let (138 balloons) go

Ally Pally 2011: 'Art free for all'

Thanks to everyone who helped me inflate and tag 138 balloons, especially Alice. No doubt Heathrow radar picked this up as the balloon release didn't go exactly according to plan! There was a gale blowing and a small vortex twisted everything up as I left the boathouse – giving them out individually was impossible. They seemed to be breaking up a bit as they gained height. Good luck to everyone who took a numbered balloon ticket. If your balloon makes it the furthest I'll treat you to tea, cake and half an hour on the boating lake. Can't say fairer than that can I? Watch this space. Props to Judith for the bottom image.

Let them eat cake – Queen's Wood 2010

Thanks to everyone who came down to support this one. Hope you enjoyed it. I certainly did and I got a lot out of the 40 or so other pieces and performances. One of the things that I realised this weekend is that some people really want to have an interpretation handy when they're looking at outside art and of course it's rarely if ever there. Either you 'get it' or you walk away. Or maybe you like something but don't appreciate it's full story, and why would you? The start point for me here as with everyone who created pieces just for the show was 'Cut Back', Tony and Judith's theme for this year. I got thinking about bankers, multi-million pound bonuses and before I knew it I was thinking about people who remain in a defiantly privileged position – hence, Marie Antoinette's apocryphal words. "Let them eat cake."
