Loving you from a distance – work at Ally Pally
Well the rain stopped long enough to have a cold and windy but good natured private view on Saturday evening. Typical British Bank Holiday weather. But there was a jazz band courtesy of the Ally Pally lakeside cafe and beer, so what more could you ask for apart from sunshine? Thanks to Christian for helping me set up on Friday. Thanks also to Caroline for giving me four lovely words and to Rekindle for inviting me along.
A few people asked me who it's about. It's actually a response to the Rekindle show theme 'must look harder' and my work is about unrequited love. Just that. As well as messages, the lightboxes contain solar panels and LED lights that switch themselves on at dusk. I like the fact that hardly anyone will see them lit up, but I saw a couple kissing underneath one tonight in the half-light which was sweet. Also children running about in the daytime shouting out "suddenly I'm a jelly!?" yesterday made me smile.
The daytime pictures are from Friday (thanks for the camera David). I also went along tonight and took some at dusk, when the lightboxes switch on and the mood changes.
